Picking the right school district for your children can be a big decision for parents. They want to go where their child will receive a solid education, but will also be a part of a community that supports the school and its teachers and students. Michele Autrey says that her family found the perfect one for them.
“In my opinion, Mustang is a great place to grow up,” she said. “While the school district may be large, the community never feels that way. I constantly see the school and the community coming together to support one another. That’s not always something you will see in a large city.”
Autrey has one child still in high school, her daughter Paige, who is a senior this year at Mustang. She is a member of the Lady Broncos varsity cheer team. Michele says that it is important for her to be involved as much as she can in her daughter’s activities.
“Staying involved for me means being active in the booster club and attending all events where Paige is participating,” she said. “It is also important for me to try to get to know the other parents and athletes. Being a team isn’t just isolated to the athletes. It takes a strong collaboration between the athletes, coaches and parents to make a team sport work, especially cheer.”
Serving as the president of the cheer booster club, Michelle says it may not be the most glamorous but it does allow her to grow some relationships.
“It is not always the easiest job,” she said. “But it has provided me with such a great connection to our amazing coaches and athletes at Moore Public Schools.’
Michele is a Certified Public Accountant and prepares tax returns and oversees the financial condition of many small businesses. In her free time, she says she enjoys taking care of the family’s many animals. They have eight chickens, four ducks, two donkeys, two dogs, and a pony.
