Tuttle Cheer – Team Spotlight – Presented By RibCrib

By Derrick Smith

To say that the Tuttle cheer program is highly decorated would be an understatement. The team has won seventeen titles in the past thirty three years, which is just about half. Head coach Julia Clapper is in her sixth season leading this historic program and she says that she is excited to see what this year’s squad does.

“Tuttle cheer holds the most state titles of any other cheer program in the state of Oklahoma,” coach Clapper said. “This year’s team has worked hard and hopes to honor that legacy.”

Senior Ella Mitchell is a member of the cheer squad and she is thankful for to wear her school’s name on her uniform.

“The thing I like most about cheering for Tuttle is being able to be a part of the success of the community,” she said. “It is a very rewarding feeling to know that I get to represent Tuttle when I cheer.”

Clapper is proud of the success of her team and says that the team’s chemistry is a big reason for the success.

“The team is really good at encouraging and building each other up,” she said. “They do it through the good times and the bad times, and it is not only with their words but actions too.”

Another senior on the squad, Emily Ryan, enjoys being a part of the team because they all love to cheer and they are a close group.
“Our team is dedicated and we all have a passion for the sport,” she said. “We are all close and it feel like we are a family”

This summer, the team attended camp in Tulsa, which allowed them to not only work on their cheer routines and things like that, but it also helped them strengthen their bond.

“Camp is always a fun,” said Clapper. “It is energy filled time with a lot of team bonding.”
