Kya Watson is a four year starter at catcher, for the Tuttle Lady Tigers. Watson brings a defined style and approach to her play.
“I’m competitive and chatty,” replied Watson who entered the fall campaign with 30 home runs and more than 100 RBIs in her career. “I’m also self motivated which helps me with school and every day life be more organized and prioritize my time to get more things accomplished.”
Watson credits the everyday examples of hard work as a driving force to succeed.
“My dad is extremely hardworking and has shown me how important it is to continue to work every day for what I want,” Kya said with appreciation. He was my travel ball coach for 10 years and was always calm in tough situations. I try to be that way on the field in big games.”
While crushing a home run in the 2020 state championship game won by Tuttle is among her “game highlights”, Watson enjoys her opportunities to continue the high energy levels of school spirit, as a player and student.
“I love going to all the other sporting events and cheering them on. Tuttle has a great tradition of showing up big for our school events. I love being a part of a community that is involved!”
Watson is a dedicated student and is involved in numerous extracurricular activities including the National Honor Society, Student Council, and FCA, all while maintaining a 4.2 GPA.
“I try to use my words, but prove it more by my actions. On the field I focus on body language and building my teammates up. Off the field, I try do the right things, and be a good example.”
With bat in hand or on her heels behind home plate, Kya Watson consistently proves her softball talents.
“Kya’s good with the bat, and is a player who comes through in the clutch said coach Rebecca Cobb. As our catcher, she’s superb at framing and receiving pitches. Kya keeps our pitchers focused no matter the situation.”
Before continuing her career at Oklahoma Christian, Watson has one last goal at Tuttle.
“I want to experience that championship feeling again especially since this is the first and last year of high school that I am playing with my sister, Audrey. She’s batting 4-hole in our line up,” Watson said. “Being a senior and in that leadership position, I just want to compete and do my best every day.”
