OFFENSE

By all accounts, the 2021 football season was a success for the Deer Creek Antlers. They ended the season with a 10-3 record and were the Class 6A-II runners-up, losing to a dominant Bixby team in the state championship game. Deer Creek’s fifth-year head coach, Wade Standley, says that his team has experience coming back in almost all positions, but will have a few holes to fill. “We have eight returning starters on defense and six on offense,” Standley said. “We have an experienced defense coming back and we have talented skill players back on offense. We will have to replace four offensive linemen.” Leading the offense at quarterback will be Grady Adamson (6-2, 178, So.). He is a talented young athlete that threw for 3,000 yards and twenty-nine touchdowns on the undefeated freshman team. Joining him in the backfield will be Deontaye Wilson (5-9, 178, Sr.) and Mason Miller (6-2, 220, Jr.). Wilson was a 1,000-yard rusher last season with eleven touchdowns, while Miller had over 500 total yards of offense and four touchdowns as a sophomore. When Adamson is looking for targets, he will be looking to get the ball to Berkely Dalton (5-10, 174, Sr.) and Bryson Rouse (5-11, 182, Sr.). The duo combined for 900 yards of offense last season and ten touchdowns, and they will look to be impact players on this year’s squad. The only returning starter on the offensive line will be Logan Taylor (5-11, 236, Sr.), who is a three-year starter. 

DEFENSE

On the defensive side of the ball, the Antlers will focus on stopping the run and controlling the pass. In the middle will be linebackers Braden Beers (5-11, 196, Sr.) and Maddox Canty (5-11, 194, Sr.), who had a combined 134 tackles and eight sacks. They will look to continue their impact on the defense. Looking for deep passes and running backs that break lose will be safeties Adrian Holman (5-10, 168, Sr.) and Teddy Amorosi (6-1, 181, Sr.). A year ago, Holman had fifty-nine tackles and one interception returned for a touchdown, and Amorosi had fifty-six total tackles. Taking care of things on the line will be nose guard Caleb Simmons (6-3, 272, Sr.) and defensive end Daxton Lewis (6-3, 228, Sr.). Simmons accounted for forty-nine tackles, ten tackles for loss, and two sacks last season, while Lewis registered sixteen tackles and three sacks. Assistant coaches this season will be Steve Neal, Jake Hayes, Jared St. John, Colin Roberts, Lance Tignor, Bentley Bross, Kent Hixon, Noah Cornell, Scott Macdonald, Michael Thomas, Louis Cottone, Brandon Haley, Stetson Harkness, and Hunter Freese
