Deer Creek’s Ava Farris – Athlete Spotlight – Presented By Deer Creek Booster Club

Deer Creek’s Ava Farris is a star on the basketball court. Ava is a power forward and has enjoyed playing basketball ever since she was young.

When asked what she enjoys most about basketball she talked about the comfort that she has found in the sport that has been constant in her life.

“It’s always just been fun for me, and it’s always been something I can rely on. It never fails to make me feel better.”

Basketball has not been the only sport that Farris has played. She has also participated in softball and tennis but has now chosen to lean solely into basketball. She first picked up the sport when she was young because she remembers watching it and thinking that it looked “really fun, so [she] wanted to try it out.” She has now been playing basketball for the majority of her life and she has learned to love it.

Playing basketball for so many years has taught Ava the value of selflessness. She explained how the biggest lesson she has learned is the importance of being a team and working together.

“It’s just always a reminder that it’s not all about me and that I’m working to push myself and be better for my team.”

Because she is a senior, the younger players will look up to Ava to lead them. In order to push the team to success, Ava will do so through her actions both in and out of the basketball realm.

“Although I’m not the most vocal person, I’ve been told I lead by example through my actions and what I do on and off the court.”

As she finishes her last basketball season at Deer Creek, it is apparent that Ava will have made an impact in the lives of her team and peers through her passion for the game.
