Taylor Tomlin is a senior baseball player for the Deer Creek Antlers. He loves the game of baseball and he is an outstanding baseball player. He attributes part of his success to the early start he had with the sport and his dad who introduced him to it.
“I started baseball at the age of three for a little league team at Mitch park in Edmond,” he said. “My dad would spend countless hours teaching me how to hit and throw. He’s been there since day one to make sure I stay on track to achieve my goals. My passion for baseball comes from the last fifteen years of training to reach my goal of becoming a professional player one day.”
Like most sports, Taylor has found life lessons in baseball that will be important for him when he is no longer playing.
“Baseball has taught me that it’s okay to fail,” he stated. “Failing helps me grow into a stronger and better person in my day-to-day life.”
There have been a number of people that have influenced Tomlin’s life, both on and off the baseball diamond. But he says that there is one special person that he is thankful for.
“My teammate and best friend Nathan Rogslski has had a major impact on my life,” he said. “I grew up with Nate on the diamond. He worked harder than anyone I’ve played with. We spent many late nights talking about how we were going to play college ball with each other. Nathan passed away last year right before our junior baseball season. Every time I step on the diamond I remember how hard he played, and that pushes me to be great.”
Stepping out on the field with the Deer Creek uniform on is important to Taylor and is a big responsibility for him.
“The best part about representing Deer Creek as a baseball player is that I can prove to the entire state why Deer Creek baseball is one of the best teams every year. I also love to show how Deer Creek has the most hard-working athletes on the field and in the classroom.”
