Edmond North senior Avery Stone knows North’s football reputation isn’t the best. So, he and his fellow seniors are making it their goal to help build a foundation for the Huskies and to help boost the reputation of Edmond North football.
“We want to have a .500 record,” Stone says. “With 6A-1 changing a bit and expanding the playoffs, we want to make the playoffs and make a playoff run.”
Stone’s confident that reputation can change and says he’s already seen a difference in the atmosphere around the North football program.
“I think everyone on the team has the mindset this year that no matter who we line up against, we can beat them,” he says. “The coaches are giving us more and we are having more team meetings and practices. I think we are headed in the right direction this year.”
Stone (6-3, 265) plays mostly left tackle for the Huskies but he will switch to the right side on occasion, something that he says he relishes because it shows that his coaches trust he can handle a lot.
“It can be difficult at times,” Stone admits. “Your footwork is a little different. But, at the same time, I used to play tight end, so I’m used to switching sides and adjust a little better. It’s not too challenging. You’re just trying to the block the guy in front of you at the end of the day.”
Stone knows that a good senior year could open up more opportunities to play football at the next level and, because of that, he has set high expectations for himself.
“My goals this year are zero QB pressures, zero sacks, and have the running back run to my side successfully,” he says.
Following graduation, Stone hopes to play football in college. While he currently does not have any scholarship offers, he has had conversations with several schools and knows a big year for himself and the Huskies could lead to collegiate opportunities.
