Guthrie’s McKenna Tucker – Athlete Spotlight – Presented by Community Builders Inc.

Athletes play their chosen sport or sports because they love the game and enjoy playing it. And while they put in a lot of work and effort to be their best, it is a huge boost when they look into the stands and see family and members of the community out to show their support. Guthrie’s McKenna Tucker says that is something that she is proud of whenever she plays.

“It means a lot to me when I see people in the bleachers,” she said. “Because they took their time to come watch and support and I want to set a prime example of being amazing and having fun showing the community that it’s okay to have fun on the field with your fiends and still lock in to play great . Our school doesn’t get a lot of recognition, so getting awards and getting out there means a lot to me to show others it’s possible.”

Tucker is in her senior year and she plays softball, basketball, and runs track for the Blue Jays. Being at her best takes time and effort, but she says that you cannot take it all too seriously.

“Being successful takes work,” she said. “You have to keep working hard everyday and when things aren’t going the best to keep my head up and push myself no matter how tired I am to become a stronger athlete and mentally stronger. Also having fun is really important. I feel if you aren’t having fun and loving your sport, it won’t feel nice and keep you motivated to do better.”

Throughout her life, Tucker has had a number of people that have served as role models or examples for her, both as an athlete and as a person, and have helped shape her into the person she is today.

“GOD, music, and my parents keep me focused and always push me to be better,” she stated. “Jayda Coleman is a big role model for me. Her energy and how much love she has for the game, also my mom because no matter how much she struggles she keeps her head up and stays strong so she is my role model to do the same.”
