Multisports Athlete of the Month: Edmond North’s Kody Routledge – Presented By Multisports, LLC

Kody Routledge is a sophomore at Edmond North High School and competes on the wrestling team for the Huskies. Routledge was first introduced to wrestling by his father when he was five years old and began competing at the Del City little league club where he began learning the fundamentals of the sport. Over the years Routledge has put in a lot of hard work and effort and has seen the results of his hard work pay off. While only a sophomore in high school Routledge has already accomplished quite a lot in his young career. Last year Routledge had a tremendous year in freestyle wrestling competing at 145.

“I believe my biggest accomplishment in the sport was becoming a 16u National Champion this summer at Fargo,” Routledge said. “The next goal I’m aiming for is becoming a state champion this February.”

This season Routledge has competed in the 150 weight class. As Routledge is still growing he was asked what weight class he sees himself competing in moving forward.

“I like to wrestle at weight classes that I can cut to while also being able to train close to the weight while still feeling energized and good,” Routledge said.

As Routledge continues his career he is focused on staying disciplined and determined. He wants to make the most of every opportunity and is training to give himself the best shot at doing so.

“I don’t believe there are any skills that make any wrestler better than another,” Routledge said. “But I do believe the most important characteristic that separates good to great wrestlers is a disciplined lifestyle. This includes sleep, diet, training, outside life, etc.”

For Routledge, preparation is key to success along with discipline. “Do what is hard today for tomorrow,” is a mantra Routledge reflects on often as he knows that the road to success is taken one day at a time.

While Routledge still has a few years of high school left he has already begun thinking about his future and is working to accomplish his goals and the impact he wants to leave on others as he continues his journey.

“I’d like to be remembered at Edmond North for being a kind, caring, Christ follower that brightened other people’s day, that happened to win a few state titles when he went to Edmond North,” Routledge said. “I plan to wrestle at the Division I level, winning national titles and competing for Team USA.”
