As a member of a team, your teammates can be more than just someone you compete next to. They become like a family that you grow with and become close to. Oklahoma Christian Academy’s Sydney Duncan says that she has been blessed with some great teammates.
“Some of my role models that I look up to are girls that I have played with in high school basketball,” she said. “Some have even gone on to play at the next level. They have shown me the amount of time and hard work that it takes to play college basketball and have made me more driven to be like them.”
Duncan is a senior at OCA. She plays guard and forward for the Lady Eagles’ basketball team. She has been playing the sport for about eleven years and still loves the game now as much as she did when she started.
While her teammates push Sydney to be her best, she knows that she has to put in her own work in order to reach the marks she has set.
“It has taken countless hours of hard work and focus to be in the position I am today,” she said. “All of the open gyms, hours spent in practice, summers of AAU, and all the private training lessons have taken me to become successful. “
Throughout her career, Dunan has made a lot of memories and enjoys some special moments with her teammates. While she enjoyed them all, Sydney says that there is one moment that a personal milestone that she says is her top memory.
“The highlight moment in my career is getting into the 1,000 point club my Junior year. It helped me realize that all my hard work is paying off and I have now made school history.”
As a student, Duncan has learned a lot during her education. She says that out of all of her teachers, there is one that made a big impact on her life.
“Mrs. Powell taught me life lessons throughout my high school years,” she said. “She has taught me things that I will be able to use throughout college. I know that I can always go to her for guidance when I need it.”
