CHRISTIAN HERITAGE ACADEMY CRUSADERS
BOYS
Coach: Jontue Ezell
22-23 Record: 13-15
Head coach Jontue Ezell thinks the Crusaders have the makings to be a good team this year. “We only lost two players from last year’s team and will bring back four starters,” Ezell said. “Our maturity and potential depth should be one of our biggest strengths this year, and we will have decent size and key guys stand out for us this year.” A trio of returners in shooting guard Tate Campbell (6-1, Jr.), point guard Trevin Ezell (5-7, Sr.) and Hayden Henry (6-5, Sr.) combined for almost 44.0 points per game last year and will have great expectations from their coach. “All three are capable of putting up big numbers at any time, and all three are experienced players that we will lean on this season,” Ezell said. Campbell, who put up 16.0 points a night last year,
will enter his second year as a starter. “Tate is a very athletic guard with range on both ends of the floor. His length allows him to get his hands on balls and can shoot the ball with anyone in the state,” Ezell said. “He attacks and scores at the rim very well.” Trevin Ezell, meanwhile, will be a third-year starter after he put up 15.0 points a night with 3.0 assists last year. “Early this season, [Trevin] will pass the 1K point mark. Trevin is a good lead guard that has been the trigger for our offense the past couple seasons,” the elder Ezell said. “He is a very shifty guard that can shoot the ball from 3 and has a very good pull-up jumper off-the-dribble. This year, Trevin is expected to take another big leap in leading our team to a successful season. I expect his production to go up based on the work he’s put in and added 10-pounds to his frame.” Christian Heritage will compete in the self-hosted Jim Elliot Tournament on Dec. 7-9, the Hinton Tournament on Jan. 4-6 and the Little Axe Tournament on Jan. 18-20. They’ll run through defending Class 2A champion Dale twice in the regular season, first at home Dec. 15 and again on the road Jan. 30.
