2023 Midwest City Lady Bombers Basketball Preview – Presented by Candace Cunningham – Shelter Insurance

MIDWEST CITY BOMBERS

GIRLS

Coach: Megan Maloy-Knight

22-23 Record: 19-8

The Midwest City Lady Bombers are “ready to take care of some unfinished business” this season, said fourth-year head coach Megan Maloy-Knight. The team won 19 games in 2023 but an early exit at Norman North’s hands in the area tournament left a sour taste in their mouths. This time around, they have a state tournament bid on their minds. “We are returning four seniors with lots of experience and expecting our younger girls to step up.” De’yanna Douglas (6-0, Sr.), a “walking double-double” by Maloy-Knight’s definition, was the team’s leader in both points and rebounds last season. She holds offers from several local schools, including Rogers State, Northeastern State and East Central University. Saliyah Landon (5-7, Sr.), the team’s returning point guard, put up 9.0 points and 9.0 rebounds a night last year.

“She was what got us going,” Maloy-Knight said. Others will be called up to serve in inflated roles this season. Mar’kia Pratt (5-8, Jr.) had an impressive sophomore year and looks to have an even greater impact in 2024. Maloy-Knight noted Pratt’s “high ceiling,” calling her “extremely athletic with the ability to get to the rim with ease.” Sevyn Miller (5-5, So.) has the tools to be a great Bomber. “Sevyn is one of the hardest workers in the gym,” Maloy-Knight said. “We are expecting Sevyn to have a huge year for us.” Ceidi Johnson, who transferred into Midwest City this offseason, could be an asset, too. “Ceidi is a transfer and works extremely hard,” Maloy-Knight said. “Every day, she comes in with the best attitude to get better.” The Lady Bombers will play in Norman Public Schools’ Joe Lawson Memorial Invitational on Dec. 7-9, the Bertha Frank Teague Mid-America Classic at ECU on Jan. 4-6 and the John Nobles Tournament at Moore on Jan. 18-20.
