VYPE: How did you first get into cheer? How old were you?
Kennedy Smith: I began dancing at the age of 3, and cheering at age 11.
VYPE: Are you involved with any other sports or school activities?
KS: I am a member of National Honor Society, INTERACT, Leadership Class, Yearbook Class, and serve as Senior Class President.
VYPE: What are some other hobbies and special interests of yours?
KS: I dance competitively outside of school, and teach dance as well. I enjoy my free time hanging out with friends and playing The Sims4.
VYPE: When was a time you faced adversity in your athletic career? How did you respond to the challenge?
KS: As a dancer, I was continually scrutinized and mistreated while in an unhealthy environment. I rebuilt my relationship with dance by leaving that environment and becoming a better version of myself.
VYPE: What’s your favorite aspect about playing sports and being part of a team?
KS: My favorite part about cheering is exemplifying school spirit and being the one who gets my peers involved. I love being on a team because I get to appreciate my camaraderie with my teammates and I get to support them and admire their growth.
VYPE: What’s a piece of advice a coach has given you that you won’t soon forget?
KS: I once had a coach tell me that “Progress is not linear.” This statement helped me embrace my failures, and learn that success doesn’t come without struggle.
VYPE: What does it mean to you to be a Midwest City Bomber?
KS: To me, being a Midwest City Bomber means being the best and setting the standard. Bombers are known for their exemplary reputations and having some “Bomber Magic.”
VYPE: What are your future plans, goals and ambitions?
LS: I plan to pursue a degree to become a Physical Therapist and continue to coach dance and choreograph.
VYPE: Who’s your celebrity crush?
KS: My celebrity crush is Key Glock.
