Carl Albert Cheer – Team Spotlight – Presented by RibCrib

Cheer teams work hard and spend a lot of time perfecting their craft. The Carl Albert cheer squad is not afraid of hard work and they know how to work together well as a team. Head coach, Kathy Gentry is a Carl Albert alum and has led the team for a year and a half. She says that her squad does a great job of working together.

“Carl Albert cheer has a tradition of coming together as a team to accomplish what they set out to do,”  Gentry said. “When we really rally with one another and encourage each other, we get an incredible amount accomplished in a short amount of time.”

Joining Gentry on the coaching staff is Keegan Bullock and Jared Walker.

Senior captain Britney West enjoys all the aspects of being on the Titan cheerleading squad.

“I enjoy supporting our school’s teams, cheering at pep rallies, and performing,” she said. “The atmosphere is truly amazing and an incredible experience. I also enjoy the bond that our team shares and the hard work we all put in to achieve our goals.”

The team’s hard work and dedication has paid off in the form of awards that they have won as a group. They won several individual Top Gun Awards for Stunt, jumps, motions, and tumbling at camp. They also had several All-Star and one Army All-American. The team had several make NCA Cheerleaders and the team won a bid to compete at NCA Nationals in January in Dallas.

Co-captain Gracie Kelley, who is a senior, enjoys the camaraderie amongst the team.

“The thing I most enjoy about my team is the fact we all have one goal in mind and we work together to achieve our goals. We always have each other to lean on during hard times,” Kelley said.

While the team focuses on the job at hand, Gentry says they also enjoy having fun together.

“We held practice all summer, attended two camps and had team bonding at the coaches house with the swimming pool. The team’s favorite thing is to attend the games far away and ride the bus together.”
