The Yellowjackets are looking to build off of their success last season and have another solid year this year. Last season, they advanced to the state tournament, before ending their season. Head coach Jermaine Simpson says that his squad has a lot of experience that will play a big role this season.
“We are returning four of five starters from last year and a total of ten players with previous varsity experience,” Simpson said. “Adding two new players this summer who will add even more depth to our roster. After the overtime loss in the semi-final in the state tournament the players are more motivated than ever for this season.”
One of the key players this year will be Isaiah Taylor (6-4, Sr.). He is the team leader on and off the floor. He suffered an injury which will not allow him to play at the beginning of the season, but he has been a vocal leader in the offseason and will be that until he can get back on the floor. Ja’mon VAlentine (6-2, Sr.), Camden Hyman (5-10, Sr.), and David McClarty (6-4, Sr.) will be big contributors for the team this season on both offense and defense.
Other players to keep an eye out for this season are AJ Ruffin (6-3, Sr.), Jordan Valentine (6-5, So.), Millett Steelman (6-6, Jr.) Braedon Everage (6-3, Jr.), Bryce Thompson (6-2, So.), Donald Stephens (6-0, Sr.), Jayden Pittman (6-2, Jr.), Kaden Ruffin (5-8, Sr.), Nate Keffier (5-10, Jr.), and Darien Luke (6-4, Sr.).
Assistant coaches for the Yellowjackets will be Bryant Andrews, Terence Carter, Cary Pittman, and Chris Caines.
