In her first season on the mat, Choctaw High School’s Ciara Reaves is looking forward to competing and representing her school on the mat.
Only a sophomore, Reaves said wrestling was the right sport for her because she is competitive and loves the pace.
“I like the competitiveness, and how fast and mental the sport is,” said Reaves.
As a team, the Lady Yellowjackets are coming off a season where one of their wrestlers became the first ever four-time state champion in Oklahoma. The team is focused on continuing the standard set by those who came before them.
“I’d say the team is coming together fine, but sometimes people end up leaving or become negative when things start to get harder,” said Reaves. “My teammates are very supportive no matter what. They always push themselves and others around.”
Representing Choctaw High School is something Reaves and her teammates are proud to do. The goal this season for Reaves is to make state and find her way to the podium. Reaves has made improvements in a very short time which will help her win matches.
“I love that I can make friends. I enjoy the fact that I have a coach who can teach me many skills to improve my abilities. My goal is to at least make state and place,” said Reaves. “I improved my aggressiveness on the mat, I’m glad that I did.”
Reaves is focused on this season and becoming the best wrestler she can be, but she’s also looking forward to her future and what life looks like after high school. “I want to go to college and get my psychology degree to become a therapist, but I would also like to squeeze in college wrestling,” said Reaves.
In her free time, Reaves said she enjoys hanging out with friends and writing.
