Choctaw High School senior Katie Blasingame is a determined golfer for the Choctaw Yellowjackets. Considered a veteran of the sport, Katie has been a golfer since 7th grade, and plays First Bag.
In regards to what motivates her, Katie proclaimed, “What motivates me is the passion I have for this sport and my desire to compete and succeed.”
Asked what it means to represent her school and community, Katie stated, “Representing your school and community when you play is an incredible honor and responsibility. It means that you are not just playing for yourself, but also for the people who support and believe in you. It is about showcasing the values and spirit of your school and community through your actions on and off the field. It is a chance to inspire others and make them proud.”
Katie’s determination can be seen as a golfer that plays despite a medical condition. Katie explained, “I was born with a form of amniotic band syndrome which means my left hand is under developed. I have a full thumb and the rest of my fingers are numbs. However, I have never let it affect me in the things I want to do, and often times people really do not even notice it.”
Many memories are made in high school athletics. Katie recalled what stood out the most to her, “Outside the obvious of shooting my career low I would say seeing all of my hard work pay off and get to sit with my fellow athletes and sign our letters of intent to continue our sports at the next level.”
In addition to being a golfer for the Choctaw Yellowjackets, Katie is a member of The National Honor Society.
After graduating from Choctaw High School, Katie plans on pursing higher education, as well as being a student athlete. Katie stated, “I plan to attend Redlands Community College in El, Reno so I can grow more as a student athlete. After that I will finish my Bachelor’s, and apply to dental school to become a pediatric dentist.”
