DEL CITY EAGLES
Coach: ROBERT JONES
9-3
OFFENSE
Two points were all that stood between Del City and its first perfect regular season since 1993. Armed with an impressive array of returning starters and some key move-ins, the Eagles might just complete their pursuit of perfection in 2023. River Warren (6-4, 195, Sr.) takes over at quarterback after leading Bishop McGuinness for the past two seasons. Coach Robert Jones feels confident his squad can run or throw with equal proficiency. Warren will hand it off to a punishing trio of running backs. Aaron Carter (6-3, 215, Sr.), Ricklan Holmes (6-1, 210, So.) and Oklahoma State commit Rodney Fields (5-9, 185, Sr.) might be the most deep and talented backfield in the state. LaDanian Fields (6-2, 180, Sr.) steps in to fill a void left by graduation at wide receiver. Rodney and LaDanian are newcomers to Del City after staring at Southeast previously. Braelon Adamah (5-10, 175, Sr.) takes over in the slot after handling the rushing duties for a good portion of 2022. Adamah has great feet and game-breaking ability with the ball in his hands. The offensive line has size and experience. Darreyl Thomas (6-4, 285, Sr.) shifts to center where he has the ability to blossom into a high-level college prospect. Villiami Thomas (6-2, 280, Sr.), Quaylin Goodman (5-10, 265, Jr.) and Choncei Jomes (5-11, 270. Jr.) all have starting experience blocking for what should be one of the more dynamic offenses in the state.
DEFENSE
The Eagles defense will greatly benefit from the rotation at running back. Aaron Carter (6-3, 215, Sr.) was a standout linebacker as a junior. He has the speed to pursue the football and the strength to defeat blockers. Ricklan Holmes (6-1, 210, So.) played well beyond his years as a freshman. He can play either linebacker or lineup in pass coverage as the nickel back. Charvis Kelly (6-2, 230, Jr.) and Tayvann Johnson (6-3, 225, Jr.) have experience on the edge of the Eagles’ four-man front. Fred Cosby (5-10, 245, Sr.) will be counted on to take over at one of the interior tackle spots inside Johnson and Kelly. Braelon Adamah (5-10, 175, Sr.) will occupy a full-time role at safety. Adamah is a third year returning starter. Jashawn McCallister (6-0, 170, Jr.) is expected to transition from outside linebacker to the other safety position. Coach Jones praised the cornerback combo of D’Marion Turner (5-9, 165, Jr.) and LaDanian Fields (6-2, 180, Sr.) as one of the best duos in the state. Add in Amante Hishaw (5-10, 180, So.), and Jones says this is the best secondary he has coached. Del City is loaded again. The Eagles were shut out by rival and eventual Class 5A champion Carl Albert in the quarterfinals in 2022. They might be on a Mid-Del collision course for the 2023 Class 5A state championship.
