Harrah’s Kolton Avalos – FFA Spotlight – Presented by OK Ag Credit

With football season behind him and baseball season approaching, Harrah High School’s Kolton Avalos is excited for spring to arrive and baseball season to start. The freshman is looking for to taking the field with his teammates, but he’s also looking forward to the second semester of FFA.

Avalos joined FFA last year as an eighth grader thanks to the encouragement of a family member.

“My mom mainly encouraged me to get into FFA just because she had done it as a child and thought I’d like it,” said Avalos.

In his second year of FFA, Avalos admits she was right.

“I enjoy every part about FFA, whether that’s meeting new people, going to conventions, or showing my animals. I’m involved with the Harrah FFA livestock judging team, and this upcoming year I will be trying speeches,” said Avalos.

Avalos loves to show his pigs and his plan for future FFA events is to show multiple types of livestock. The freshman said anyone interested in FFA should give it a chance.

“It is a really great thing to do, the environment is amazing and is always held to and exciting mood, there will be someone to help you no matter how old you are, or what experience you have,” said Avalos.

As for the upcoming season, Avalos is focused on making the most of every opportunity he gets on the field. “I love the fact that I’m getting better every day and I have coaches and upperclassmen around to help me if I’m lacking somewhere. I’ve always planned on seeking my career in sports and to go to college for either baseball or football, but you must always have a backup plan, so if I’m not able to get the show on the road through sports I would really love getting into my own business through welding,” said Avalos.
