Jones’ Kneah Smith Athlete Spotlight Presented by Blue and Gold Sausage

After their remarkable run in the playoffs, the Jones Longhorns made a name for themselves this season, coming up short in the 3A State Semifinals against Idabel. A key part of their deep battle into the state tournament was Kneah Smith.

A senior powerhouse, she dominates as a power forward, driven by a fierce combination of competition and community support. “The competition and the love and support you get from others along the way,” she said, speaking of her motivation.

Behind her success lies a network of influencers. “My parents and my coaches… taught me persistence,” Kneah shared. Among them stands Mrs. Coty Neal, a teacher whose impact transcends the classroom. “She shows me every day that I can be myself even though others might not like it,” Kneah added.

For Kneah, success in basketball demands more than just skill – it’s about resilience and dedication. “Persistence and time,” she emphasized, recounting the countless hours poured into perfecting her game. Yet, amid the trials, there are triumphs. “Growing to be the leading scorer of a three-time state champion team,” she said, recalling her proudest moment on the court.

But every victory holds a story, and for Kneah, defeating Alva is one she enjoys most. “We lost to them our second game,” she recalled, her competitive spirit ignited by the memory. And in practice, Kneah finds her mettle tested against teammate Sofi Woodson, whose formidable presence pushes her to innovate and excel.

Yet, amidst the spotlight, Kneah remains grounded, recognizing the impact of her team. “Rylee Smith plays probably the biggest part on our team; she’s our biggest leader.” And while her focus is on the court, her dreams extend far beyond. Post-high school, Kneah plans to continue her basketball journey while pursuing entrepreneurship, aiming to become a multi-business owner.

Representing Jones High isn’t just about the game – it’s a testament to community pride and spirit. “It absolutely meant everything to be able to wear the name of Jones on my chest.”
