Some athletes begin playing sports at a very young age getting a head start on honing their athletic abilities. Other kids wait until they are in school to play. But something that both groups need is support and encouragement from their coaches and families.
Owen Wilson says that while he has played sports for a long time, he would not be where he is without his family.
“I’ve grown up playing sports my whole life,” he said. “I am very glad that I have a great family who has been nothing but supportive and loving. Without my family and coaches growing up, I wouldn’t be the successful player I am today.”
Wilson is a senior at Luther High School where he is a multisport athlete. He plays basketball, baseball, football, and golf for the Lions.
While he says that he has received a lot of support over his career, there are a couple of people that have made a bigger impact on his life.
“The biggest role model in my life has always been my dad,” he said. “He has always inspired me to be the best person I could be, and he has always been there for me through everything. He has pushed me to become the man and player I am today. Another role model for me has to be my principal who is also my football coach. He has also been a great role model to me. He has taught me a lot of what the future holds to be an adult and being able to take care of my family.”
Owen has played sports for many years, and he has created a lot of lasting memories with his teammates But he says that working hard and leading the team would have to be his favorite moment.
“The highlight of my career has been being able to be a great team player and contributor to my teammates. I always strive to be the best team leader I can be.”
Along with playing sports, Wilson is also a member of the National Honor Society and the Oklahoma Honor Society.
