Carl Albert cheerleader Britney West recently completed an interview with VYPE.
VYPE: What are your personal goals for the year?
My personal goal for this year was to just enjoy my senior year and really take it all in before I move onto bigger and better opportunities in my life.
VYPE: What is your favorite athletic memory?
My favorite athletic memory was getting the opportunity to cheer at the All American Army Bowl in Texas, I got to meet a lot of really great people and make a ton of friends from all around America. It was a really incredible opportunity to be a part of the first All American cheer team and get to perform during the halftime portion of the game.
VYPE: What teammate has left the biggest impression on you and why?
I really can’t say just one teammate that has made an impression on me but there’s three. The first one is Addison Gentry, a Junior, she has been with me since 7th grade. Addie’s always radiating positivity and she’s always willing to stay after practice with me to do a few extra reps of stunts. Next is Skylar Ashley, also a junior, I met Skylar my sophomore year and she is so talented. She’s always pushed me to become a better athlete. Skylar’s always there when I have needed her whether that was being someone to talk to or to fill in at a game with me. Lastly is Taylor Swearingen a junior as well, I’ve known her since my junior year. Taylor always has been there for me in and out of cheer. She is always hard working and always putting in her best effort in whatever she is doing, she never misses a practice or a game. Each of these girls I have been able to rely on since I met them. They are all outstanding athletes and have even better leadership skills. I’m so proud of how far they each have come.
VYPE: What is your favorite part of being on this team?
My favorite part of being on this team is the bond we have created over time and getting to make memories with my best friends.
VYPE: Do you participate in any community service projects?
I am a member of the National Honors Society.
VYPE: What Clubs or Campus groups are you involved with and why?
I’m involved in Stuco, Leadership, NHS, FFA, and track. All organizations are amazing opportunities to be involved with my school and with our community.
VYPE: What has your sport taught you that you use in your daily life?
Cheer has taught me to be a good leader and how to work well with a team.
VYPE: What is the best advice that anyone has given you?
The best advice anyone has given me was to see the good, I think it’s a really important mindset to focus on the good in things. It’s really easy to notice all the negative side of things and it’s easy to dwell on. I’ve noticed changes in my athletic and leadership abilities with my mindset changed to focus on the good.
VYPE: Who inspires you and why?
My mom inspires me the most. She’s shown me how to care for others and be responsible. Her unwavering love and support inspires me everyday.
VYPE: Here is your chance to give a shoutout or say thank you to anyone you wish.
I’d like to thank God, my parents, my sister, my brothers, coaches, boyfriend, and bestfriends. I’m so thankful for all these people in my life I couldn’t have done it without their love and support. They had faith in me even when I didn’t, they pushed me to become a better person and athlete.
