As the Southmoore Girls Soccer Team takes to the field, there’s a sense of excitement and anticipation for the upcoming 2024 season. Under the expert guidance of Head Coach Katy Swartzendruber, the team showcases a blend of skill, leadership, and inspiring stories that promise an enthralling journey on the soccer pitch.
Coach Swartzendruber gives her insight on the upcoming season: “We have a lot of players that have consistently stepped up in terms of leadership, effort, focus, and skill development. Key players returning this year have set a standard for everyone in our program, contributing to a very productive offseason. This is a great group, and I have been very impressed with their growth as players and as a team.”
The Southmoore Sabercats have their eyes set on a successful season. With an 8-6 record in the previous year, the team is eager to build on their foundation and make a statement in the competitive soccer arena.
At just a sophomore, goalkeeper Lelu Lamb stands out as an under-recruited talent. Coach Swartzendruber sees her as one of the best keepers in the state, with tremendous potential and continuous improvement. Lamb’s goalkeeping prowess promises to be a key asset for Southmoore.
Leading the charge is senior standout Hannah Montoya. Not only is Montoya recognized as one of the best soccer players at Southmoore, but she also exemplifies exceptional leadership qualities. Committed to Dallas Baptist University, Montoya’s work ethic, attitude and maturity make her an invaluable asset on and off the field.
Sophomore Destiny Livingston caught the coach’s eye last year, starting as a freshman and showcasing notable improvement during the offseason. With enhanced speed of play and decision-making skills, Livingston is poised to make a significant impact on the team.
Described as one of the toughest players Coach Swartzendruber has ever coached, Alyssa Schuerch takes on the role of the athlete who does all the little things right. A committed defender, Schuerch’s effort and energy are contagious, making her a key piece for the team’s success. Committed to OCU, Schuerch’s versatility is a valuable asset.
Abby Prufert brings a unique and inspiring story to the team. Having battled childhood cancer in elementary school, Prufert radiates positivity and encouragement. Her infectious energy and great sense of humor make her a beloved teammate.
Makala Johnson not only stands out as one of the best soccer players on the team but also as someone who consistently demonstrates positive character traits. Honest, hardworking and dedicated both on and off the field, Johnson’s commitment to UCO is a testament to her all-around prowess.
