VYPE: Makala, what makes being a student-athlete at Southmoore special for you?
Johnson: I love being a student-athlete at Southmoore because all of the teachers and coaches are super supportive. They take care of us and make sure we stay on top of our grades. Coach S. and coach Web have been very supportive of me since my freshman year. They are always there to help me with anything I need. I am also very grateful for coach Kit and coach Tam. They are always available when I need advice or guidance.
VYPE: How does the team look this season?
Johnson: Our team has a lot of potential this year. We have improved tremendously, and we have gained key roles that we were missing from last year. We recently placed second in the Arkansas tournament this past weekend, while beating the state champs from Arkansas. If we perform well as a team, we can accomplish a lot this season.
VYPE: What grade are you in and how long have you played soccer?
Johnson: I’m a junior at and I’ve been playing soccer since I was four years old. I started out playing Academy soccer at Southlakes Soccer Club. My freshman year I transitioned to Oklahoma Energy FC playing ECNL.
VYPE: What do you love most about your teammates?
Johnson: I love how supportive and positive my teammates are. They always have my back on and off the field. No matter what, we are all family, and everyone is there for each other. I have been very lucky to have made great relationships with lots of my teammates over the years.
VYPE: Do you belong to any clubs or groups at school?
Johnson: Yes, I am member of our Student Athletic leadership committee. I love being a part of this because we come together to support other sports and set up events.
VYPE: What is your favorite subject, and do you have a favorite teacher?
Johnson: My favorite subject is English, and my favorite teacher is coach Green.
VYPE: What position do you play and what aspect of your game have you improved for this season?
Johnson: I play striker and I’ve been working to improve on creating more attacking opportunities for my team.
VYPE: What would you like to do after you graduate?
Johnson: After I graduate, I will be attending the University of Central Oklahoma to continue my athletic and academic career.
VYPE: What can we find you doing in your free time?
Johnson: In my free time I love to spend time with my family, friends, and my dog. I also enjoy working on my game to better myself in soccer.
