Harrah’s Alex Morgan – Athlete Spotlight – Presented By Rib Crib

By Derrick Smith

Teachers play an important role in the lives of their students. In addition to the curriculum, they also teach their students other things that they can carry with them for the rest of their lives. Alex Morgan says that one of his teachers at Harrah High School has had a big influence on his life.

“I would say that Mr. Harkey is probably my favorite teacher,” Alex said. “There are numerous reasons why. He is just an overall great person and mentor. I have learned a lot of life lessons from him and I am very thankful for him.”

Alex is a senior at Harrah. He plays first base, third base, and pitcher as a member of the baseball team. He first started playing the sport when he was four years old and it has been a part of his life ever since. Along with baseball, he is also a member of the Harrah football and swim teams.

Throughout his life, there have been people who have had an impact on Alex’s life. But he says that there is one person who has had the biggest influence on him.

“My best friend Mark is the biggest role model in my life,” he said. “He is so dedicated to the Lord and I aspire to be like him.”

Mike Lowe, the head coach of the Harrah boys baseball team, says that Alex is an outstanding ball player that should see success at the next level.

“Alex was our top pitcher last year,” Lowe said. “He was a Monday and Tuesday starter on the mound for us in district games. When he was not on the mound, he started at either third base or in the outfield. He has signed to play baseball at Southwest Christian University in Bethany. I think he has a bright future ahead of him.”

Being able to play college baseball is something that Alex has dreamed of for a while. He knew that he would have to work hard in order to achieve it.

“Putting in a lot of hard work has helped me get to where I am today,” Alex said. “I have also had to stay focused on my goals and dreams and not let things derail me.”
