Lexington’s Emma McMillian – FFA Spotlight – Presented by Ok Ag Credit

For several years Emma McMillian was a member of the 4-H club until she got into the eighth grade when she joined the FFA. Now a junior at Lexington High School, Emma is enjoying her FFA chapter and making the most of every opportunity it has to offer.

“My mom and dad and my Ag teacher Mr. O all encouraged me to join. I switched from 4-H to FFA in the eighth grade,” said Emma.

Also a member of the varsity cheer squad, Emma is in her third year as a cheerleader and she love being part of the team.

“I love the people and my coaches and the bond that we have created over the years. I also did cross country for four years and track for two,” said Emma.

As a member of the FFA, Emma said she is involved in many activities including showing livestock.

“I do livestock showing and I’ve been to multiple fund raisers and activities that we do in our FFA chapter,” Emma said. “I show sheep my sister and dad taught me how to show them. I have also bred my own sheep for about eight years now. I love the people I’m surrounded by in FFA and the animals.”

Emma said her father has been a big influence in her life.

“My dad mostly he has showed me what to do and not to do with my animals and any other plan I have in life he has helped me with so much and I really appreciate him,” said Emma.

The junior offers this advice to any classmates who may be considering the FFA as an organization they would like to join.

“I would ask them what animal they would show and then provide information for that animal and ask them questions about why they would want to join FFA,” said Emma.
