Lexington’s Zeke Faulkenberry Athlete Spotlight Presented by Vision Bank

Zeke Faulkenberry, a Lexington High School senior, won this year’s Moore-Norman preseason boy’s basketball poll.

Faulkenberry is also a standout baseball player and cross country runner for the Bulldogs. His basketball journey began at 8 years old.

“I liked watching basketball when I was little and decided to play,” Faulkenberry said.

Faulkenberry was ate up with basketball from the tip. It was all about hoops. When he was getting his start in basketball, he took to scoring and had a knack for putting the ball in the hole. Between that and making memories with his teammates on the court, it’s easy to see why Faulkenberry was hooked. The latter of those became his true muse for the game. Asked his favorite aspect of playing basketball today, Falkenberry answered, “playing with my teammates who I have been playing with all of my life.”

“[Basketball] has taught me how to be a leader and learn how to be a great person,” Faulkenberry said.

His coaches rave about his contributions on the floor and in the locker room.

“Zeke is dedicated and hard-working,” Lexington head boys basketball coach Tyler Thetford said. “His energy on the court is contagious. He’s quick off the dribble and an excellent finisher around the rim. He’s a decent shooter and constantly working to improve. He anticipates well on defense creating several steal opportunities every game.”

“I try to be a leader that can communicate effectively and help the underclassmen learn things that can help them in high school,” Faulkenberry said. “I think leadership is important to lead the young guys into doing the right things and helping them improve on things that they maybe aren’t the best in doing.”

This season, if you find yourself in Lexington, Oklahoma on a Tuesday or Friday night, it’s worth the admission to see Faulkenberry and his team slay giants.

“When we play some pretty good teams,” Faulkenberry said, “I respond by making sure that my teammates and I still go in there and give it our all to win.”
