Makinzie Weddle

Southmoore High School

Southmoore High School’s Makinzie Weddle experienced something many athletes go through at some point in their career. A season when you’re watching from the sidelines until you make a return to the field. For Weddle, it was an up and down season.

“This season was a roller coaster for sure, I was out with a knee injury for a few weeks, but I had faith in the team to pull through and make it to playoffs. It was rough not being able to play but it was great to actually sit back and watch the team,” said Weddle.

The left forward said once she was on the field, her game picked up and she made improvements in areas that were a focus for her personally.

“I feel like I most improved with confidence on the ball. I still need to work on that a bit more, but I’ve gotten better at not being scared with the ball,” said Weddle.

Her passion for the game and her love for her teammates is something every coach wants to see from their players.

“The thing I love most about my teammates is their personalities. Everyone has such a great sense of humor, and they are all positive people. My favorite moment from this season was beating Westmoore because we wanted that so bad. Or the bus rides back from away games, we always had a good time singing on the bus,” said Weddle.

A soccer player since the age of four, Weddle is turning her focus to her senior year and life after high school.

“After I graduate, I would like to be able to go to college, hopefully to play soccer but if that’s not the case I would want to get a degree,” Weddle continued. “I think our team next year will be good. We will definitely need to step up because we will be missing some of our seniors out there, but I have hope in the team that we can win. My message to my teammates and coaches is probably more of a thank you. Thank you for always believing in me and pushing me to be the greatest. Wouldn’t be here without you guys!”
