When Darian Levon Grant steps onto the basketball court he knows God is by his side. Faith plays a significant role in the life of this Moore High School senior.
Basketball has taught Darian patience, and that God has a plan. The advice he follows is from John 13:7. “You do not realize now what I am doing, but later you will understand,” is a verse Darian relies on.
His favorite part of basketball is the excitement of the game and sharing that with teammates whom he refers to as his brothers. “I’m passionate, because basketball is a lifestyle. You can put whatever you are going through in your outside life and take it all out on the court,” he said.
“My idol is the man above, God. That is who I look up to. My mother inspires me for how strong she is and for going through every obstacle and not giving up,” he says. Another person important to Darian is his aunt because she makes his all-time favorite meal of king ranch casserole.
He looks up to a teammate who handles adversity with strength. “My bro Tris, he has been through a lot injury wise and never did he ever quit on himself,” said Darian. “I just want to shoutout to everybody, to my coaches, my mother, my family, but just in general, God. I would not be here without the man above.”
He was in the fifth grade when he first began playing basketball. Coach Tramble, his childhood coach, is the person Darian credits with getting him into the sport.
Being a student athlete is an opportunity to be a positive role model. Representing MHS is about “having kids look up to you, having a positive outlook, and setting the right example for them each and every day,” he says.
Darian’s best memories are of the journey. “Everything has been a blessing. The ups the downs, just learning to enjoy it all. It’s all a learning experience.”
