Playing sports taught Kenzie Clouse to work hard in everything she does. This sophomore at Norman North High School gives 100 percent effort to achieve her goals. “It’s taught me discipline, perseverance and how to handle adversity,” she says.
Kenzie is passionate about soccer and basketball. “I’m very competitive. I always want to win in everything I do, and I want to get better every single day. My favorite part about being on a team is my teammates. Knowing we are all in it together and we win or lose together. We lift each other up and support each other. They make me a better person and push me to be a better athlete.
“My favorite part about representing Norman North as an athlete is feeling connected to the school. When I walk down the hall, my teachers and classmates will tell me good luck on game days. I’m proud to be a Timberwolf!” says Kenzie.
Going to the 6A state basketball tournament last year is her favorite memory. “The school send-off was great! I’ll never forget walking down the hallway with the band and the students cheering. We will be back!” exclaimed Kenzie.
Kenzie looks up to USNT goalkeeper, Matt Turner. “He went from being on ESPN’s worst 10 plays of the year in college, to being the starting keeper for the World Cup team. His story inspires me to keep working hard and that mistakes don’t define you,” she said.
Former basketball teammate Hannah Fields had the greatest impact on Kenzie. “I came onto the basketball team, and she just took me under her wing. Hannah and another senior that year, Avery Robbins, really made my freshman year great and one I’ll never forget. I will always pay it forward!” she says.
Her mom inspires her the most, says Kenzie. “My mom always leads by example. She works hard every day, is caring and loving, and always puts her family first. I want to be like her when I grow up.”
Kenzie thanks her dad for always pushing her to be her best. “He definitely keeps it real and always helps with stuff I need to work on. I wouldn’t be where I am today without him,” she says.
While there are ups and downs in sports, Kenzie says to always practice how you would play in a game and to always be the teammate that you would want on your team. This advice has helped her become the teammate and person she is today.
