Emmie Aga – Norman North High School   Presented by Genesis & Hyundia

Accountability is the most valuable lesson Emmie Aga has learned playing basketball. A sophomore at Norman North High School, Emmie says “if I ever make a mistake, I know my teammates will hold me to the standards as much as myself, so it makes me more accountable every day.”

Emmie’s favorite part about being on a team is getting to play with her best friends every day. She also loves getting close to and meeting new people. She is proud to represent NNHS on and off the court. “The best part of representing my school is being able to play in front of my friends and having the support from the school,” she said.

“I’m passionate about my sport because I find so much fun playing it,” she says, “it makes the work put in worth it.” 

Basketball is now Emmie’s favorite sport, but it was not her first. “When I was eight, I had already been playing soccer for a few years but knew it wasn’t quite for me. I had a basketball hoop in my driveway, so I started playing. Then I wanted to join my local team and have been playing since,” she said. 

She has made many memories on the court through the years but one from last year stands out. While playing against Norman High in the freshman crosstown clash, Emmie made a basket after getting fouled at the very end of the game. Her shot helped to settle the win giving her an all-time favorite memory.

Teammate, Olivia Watkins, has left the greatest impression on Emmie. She has helped Emmie become a better person and player. “Olivia is such a kind person but also a great leader,” says Emmie.

Emmie admires NBA player Derrick Rose. She is moved by his life story and how he fought through adversity in his childhood. Her favorite teacher is Mr. Sondag because he makes learning history fun and enjoyable. 

“My parents inspire me because they push me to be the best that I can be. Thank you, Mom, Dad, coaches, and teammates,” exclaims Emmie.

Faith is also important to Emmie. She finds inspiration in Luke 18:27 which keeps her going even when things are tough. “What is impossible with man is possible with God.”
