Mackenzie Drennen – Senior – Norman North High School
M. Howell
Mackenzie Drennen knows how to face and overcome adversity! One of her proudest achievements is when she was able to return to sports after having to have two knee surgeries. A senior at Norman North High School, Mackenzie plays softball and thanks the sport for making her a better leader. Her favorite part of representing Norman North is the community they have – there is always “a huge student section cheering on every sport,” she said. With that kind of community support, Mackenzie can focus on bringing in wins and keeping up her grades. She knows the importance of working hard on her schoolwork and keeping a good balance between her responsibilities. Mackenzie’s favorite teacher was Mr. Campos from the 8th grade because he told her she could do anything she put her mind to, and she began to believe it as well.
When asked about who inspires her, Mackenzie quickly responded that her mom was her biggest inspiration, “because she always is there no matter what, no matter how long she worked – she was there.” She also wants to thank her teammate Cella Oballa for always being there for her and says Cella is the hardest working and kindest person she knows and can always make her laugh. The best advice Mackenzie has ever been given is “’you never know until you try,’ because if you don’t take risks in life or tryout for that team, you will never know how it can change your life.” She knows it is important to work towards your goals and never give up. Mackenzie wanted to show her appreciation to her coaches Laura Collins, Mandy Fulton, and Devon Frasier, both of her parents, and all her teammates. This incredibly gracious team player is one student athlete to look out for!
