Norman North’s Marcella Oballa – Softball Spotlight – Presented by Affordable Construction Co.

By Jayden Oyler
Marcella Oballa, an 11th grader at Norman North High School, is making waves on and off the softball field.

When asked about her proudest moment, Oballa said hosting a regional tournament with her team. “It was awesome to see how far we had come,” Oballa said. “We were able to fight with them until the last play.”

Fastpitch softball has been Oballa’s teacher, imparting valuable life lessons. “I have learned to communicate with coaches and players, accountability, discipline, and hard work,” she shared.

In the realm of education, Oballa remains appreciative of her teachers, though she doesn’t single out one as a favorite. It speaks to her respect for the educators who have contributed to her growth.

One of her greatest inspirations is a teammate, Mack Drennen. “Mack is one of the strongest people I know,” Oballa said. “She has gone through more than one can imagine and she continues to work every day with a smile on her face. She inspires me to do my best and that no matter what happens, don’t give up.”

Representing her high school as an athlete is a source of immense pride for Marcella. “My favorite part about representing the school is winning while being a T-wolf,” Oballa said. “I love winning, but I also love winning for the school.”

Marcella’s life has been shaped by valuable advice she’s received: “Control what I can control.”

This wisdom guides her both on and off the field, emphasizing the importance of focusing on what’s within her power.

Beyond sports, she is a member of Norman North’s Student Council (DEN), where she serves as the Social Chair. Additionally, she participates in the school’s philanthropic organization, SPUD (Students Performing Unselfish Deeds), and leads Project Linus, a club with a mission to make blankets for those in need.

In conclusion, Marcella extends her gratitude to her coach, Laura Collins, for her unwavering support, and to her parents for their sacrifices and dedication to helping her succeed.
