What hasn’t already been said about Owen Eshelman. Besides being the starting quarterback for the Timberwolves, Eshelman is a member of FCA and a Bible study group in Norman called the Noblemen.
“I spend a lot of time serving at my church. My faith is the most important thing in my life, so when I am not playing a sport or going to school, I am most likely at a bible study or church event. I am also part of DEN (Student Council) and SPUD (School philanthropy week) at Norman North,” said Eshelman.
He started his football journey in elementary school, playing tackle football in the fifth grade, but it wasn’t his main sport.
“Growing up, basketball was always my main sport, and it wasn’t until I got to high school that I decided to pursue football more heavily,” said Eshelman.
“ ”This season Eshelman focused on getting bigger, faster, and stronger and hone his throwing mechanics. Eshelman is focused on building team chemistry this season.
“One of the things about Norman North football that most people don’t know is that this is one of the most close-knit teams I have ever been a part of. On a roughly 100 player roster, it would be very easy to have a lot of fights and hate between players, but this team truly loves and trusts each other and it’s really special to be a part of,” said Eshelman.
Eshelman gives credit to his parents for the person he has become.
“My parents have always taught me the gospel and what it looks like to walk faithfully with the Lord, and one of the things they always explained to me that the Bible teaches is that when something bad happens, it happens for a reason, and when something good happens, it happens for a reason, and we cannot always understand the reason, but we can trust God and continue to honor Him in any situation,” said Eshelman.
After High School, Eshelman plans to play football at South Dakota State and study mechanical engineering. Once done with college, Eshelman said he is placing the rest in God’s hands.
“I am trusting the Lord to provide a path that he wants me to pursue, and I will follow that wholeheartedly.”
