Norman North’s Seleh Harmon Athlete Spotlight presented by OSO Orthodontic Specialist

Playing basketball has taught Seleh Harmon the value of hard work, focus, leadership and teamwork. Seleh is junior at Norman North High School. She applies these skills while proudly representing her school as a student athlete. “I enjoy the connections I make and playing in front of our fans,” she says.

Seleh’s favorite part of being on a team is “working with my friends and teammates towards our common goal…To Win State!” An unexpected run to the state tournament last season is her best memory of playing ball.

The best advice she has received is to “always play with the confidence that comes from the work you have already put in,” said Seleh.

“I started playing when I was six. My brothers, my dad and my grandpa were all
basketball players. Basketball runs in our family and we love to compete. So basketball is the natural outlet for our competitive spirit,” she says. “Shoutout to Dad who has taught me all I know about the game and is in the gym with me daily improving my game. My biggest supporter for sure!”

Seleh is inspired by college basketball player Caitlin Clark and professional basketball player Stephen Curry. “Caitlin Clark has broken many records in women’s basketball and is so entertaining to watch. She inspires me to push harder and reach for the stars.
Stephen Curry is a great example of overachieving against those who thought he
couldn’t while being humble and down to earth,” she says.

A little closer to home, Seleh says teammate, Hannah Fields has left the biggest
impression because she taught toughness on the court and how to lead a team the right way.

Several teachers also stand out as favorites. “Mr. Baldwin and Mr. Hamiltin are two of my favorite math teachers who were always very supportive in the classroom and on the court,” she said.

When it is time to relax Seleh says, “I want to go anywhere there’s a BEACH! I’ll be
taking my teammates and best friend Olivia Watkins for sure!”
