Norman Tigers Football Preview – Presented By Landers Auto Group

ROCKY MARTIN

4-7

OFFENSE

The Norman Tigers are coming off of a 2021 campaign that saw them fall in the first round of the playoffs to eventual 6A-I champion Jenks and end with a 4-7 record. But they enter this new season with experience in key positions and they are looking to improve on last season. Leading the Tigers’ offense will be dual-threat quarterback Tias McClarty (5-10, 165, Sr.). Last season, he threw for 1,086 yards and nine touchdowns and also rushed for 1,569 yards and nineteen touchdowns. Joining him in the backfield will be the running back duo of Xavier Shackelford (5-9, 165, Sr.) and Devin Alexander (5-10, 165, Jr.), who combined for 1,434 rushing yards and twelve touchdowns. They also added 146 receiving yards and one score. Serving as an outside threat for McClarty will be Max Wilson (6-0, 165, Jr.), who tallied four catches last season for fifty-one yards. He has worked hard in the offseason and is ready to increase those numbers and increase his impact on the team. Anchoring things on the offensive line will be a couple of two-year starters that are experienced and know what they need to do in order of the offense to have success this season. Cayde Spencer (6-2, 250, Sr.) will play offensive tackle and Deuce Trenary 5-10, 265, Sr.) will be at offensive guard.

DEFENSE
Last season’s version of the Tiger defense gave up an average of thirty-six points per game. In order to make a playoff run, this year’s defense will need to lower that number and the coaching staff feels that they have a solid team coming back. The top returning tackler from last season, Dax Noles (6-0, 170, Jr.) will play at safety after having a solid season a year ago. He had 126 tackles, one tackle for loss, one fumble recovery, three pass breakups, and two interceptions. Also playing at safety will be Jackson Ford (5-11, 170, So.). These two will work to shut down the opponent’s passing game and stop any runners that break free. The Tigers also have outstanding experience returning to the linebacker position. Brody Boyd (5-10, 170, Sr.) and Montgomery Johnson (6-0, 185, Sr.) will both play at outside linebacker, while Lance Eubanks (6-0, 180, Jr.) will be at linebacker. Last season, Eubanks registered sixty-six tackles, four tackles for loss, one sack, and forced a fumble, while Johnson and Boyd combined for seventy-six tackles, four tackles for loss, two sacks, and a fumble recovery. Taking care of things up front will be defensive end Mareion Wade (5-10, 175, Sr.). Assistant coaches this season will be Chase Cooksey, BW Trenary, John Baldwin, Brent Hartsook, Scott Hennigan, Levonte Douglas, Daniel Kitchel, and Jaedan Ford.
