Norman High School senior Kathleen Shafer loves being part of the cheer squad and she loves being on the football field on Friday nights.
“What I love most about my team and teammates is the fact that we are a family. We support and encourage each other and there’s never a dull moment when we are together. This team is definitely the most fun team I’ve been on,” said Kathleen. “The thing that makes Friday nights in Norman so special to me is the atmosphere it creates. With the student section, band, fans, and the cheer and pom team all coming together to support the football team is super fun and exciting to be a part of.”
With so many great memories during her high school career, it’s hard to narrow the list down to just one. But a game against Mustang High School really stands out for the senior.
“My favorite moment at a game was when we beat Mustang last year and everyone stormed the field. I also just love being on the sidelines with my friends,” Kathleen said.
After the big game, Kathleen and her friends like to grab some food and enjoy time with friends. You may even catch her at Taco Bueno where she loves to order the chicken soft tacos. Kathleen knows this time will soon come to an end, but for now she is enjoying the moment.
“What I will miss the most about Friday nights in Norman is having fun on the sidelines with my friends, cheering on the football team, and the exciting atmosphere the Harve brings on Friday nights,” Kathleen said. “After I graduate, I plan on attending the University of Oklahoma and majoring in health and exercise science, then hopefully continuing on to become a physical therapist.”
A six-year cheer veteran with four of those at the high school level, Kathleen and her teammates know what it takes to get the crowd going. Kathleen said there are many reasons she is proud to be part of the Norman Tiger family.
“Norman is a great place to go to school because teachers care and want to see you succeed,” Kathleen said.
