With the season coming to a close, Norman High School’s Losaline Makahununiu said she is proud of her team and the way they competed this season.

“Hearing everyone talking about us gives us something to play for, not only because we love this sport, but because of all the amazing people who motivate us and cheer us on. Because of the amazing coaching staff we have, we are able to earn every victory we get as a team. One Team – One Family – One Mission,” said Makahununiu.

Playing at home is special for Makahununiu and her teammates.

“Only the best gym which would be the Norman High Gym. The feeling of home court advantage and having all the confidence in the world as a team to put on a show not only for the parents and players, but for the best student section, the NHS Crazies,” said Makahununiu.

In her time at NHS, Makahununiu said she’s made many great memories with her teammates.

“One of my favorite moments is any team bonding event we have. Not only are we great as a team, but the little moments when we bond as a family outside of volleyball is what makes us connect so well on the court and genuinely just make the best memories,” said Makahununiu.

Makahununiu said her favorite subject in school is English.

“My favorite subject in school would have to be English because of the amazing selection of English teachers and their ability to make it fun. I can’t pick just one, but I do have to shout out Ms. Diring, Mrs. Chandler, and Ms. Burr for not only being some of the best teachers I’ve had, but they have been so helpful in real life scenarios and help me grow as a person.”

As for life after high school, Makahununiu said she is hopeful she will find a home where she can continue to play the sport she loves.

“My goal after high school would be to commit anywhere really, hopefully outside of Oklahoma. I plan to major in sports broadcasting and stay involved in the things I love most. Getting the opportunity to stay connected with sports in my future is what I wish most for in my life. I cannot imagine my life without sports.”
