VYPE: What was your best outing during your sophomore year as a golfer?
Preston Baker: My best outing during sophomore year was at The Greens for our conference tournament. I shot 79, my best tournament score at that time.
VYPE: What preparation did you (or the team) take in order to be successful?
PB: Some preparation my team and I like to do before a tournament is make sure we know the course and start practicing some of those shots we know we’re going to need to be successful.
VYPE: What tournaments did you play well in?
PB: The tournaments I feel like I played the best at this year were conference (at The
Greens) where I shot a 79, and at Westwood; I shot 84 in some pretty tough conditions. Overall, I didn’t have a great year but plan on having a better one this upcoming season.
VYPE: What has your sport taught you that you use in your daily life?
PB: Golf has taught me that hard work pays off because I’ve worked very hard on golf and seeing those improvements shows me what hard work can do.
VYPE: Why are you passionate about your sport?
PB: I am passionate about golf because it’s a game. Ever since I started, I’ve enjoyed it. Golf is something I feel I could go very far in.
VYPE: Who inspires you and why?
PB: Someone who inspires me is Tiger Woods. Seeing all the hard work he put in, and then all of it paying off with how successful he was in golf is inspiring.
VYPE: What has been your favorite memory in your sport?
PB: My favorite memory in golf so far was shooting my record of 75 in a tournament this summer.
VYPE: What is the best advice anyone has given you?
PB: The best advice someone has given me about golf is to stay patient. In golf, you’re not going to see improvements right away and need to keep working hard.
VYPE: Here is your chance to give a shout out or say anything to anyone you wish!
PB: I would like to shout out Casen Bell for making state this year. Our team’s goal was to go to the state tournament as a team, but at least we were able to send an individual.
