Q&A with Moore’s Taryn Cottrell – Athlete Spotlight – Presented by Sun and Ski Sports

By: Hunter Ferguson

Moore athlete Taryn Cottrell gave an interview with VYPE.

VYPE: What are your personal goals for the year?
I want to make the most out of my senior year and get my team to the state tournament.

VYPE: What is your favorite athletic memory?
My teams’ first win under Coach K against Piedmont. The game went into overtime and we came out on top. After the game in the locker room we sprayed our coach with water and it was a big moment for us.

VYPE: What teammate has left the biggest impression on you and why?
Madeline Bills. She constantly worked on her game and she never let outside noise affect her. She was one of the strongest people I know and she persevered through a lot of adversity last season. She was one of the most skilled players I have ever gotten the chance to play with and I still look up to her.

VYPE: What is your favorite part of being on this team?
How close everyone is. It truly feels like family with all of my teammates. Some of my best friends are on my team with me.

VYPE: Do you participate in any community service projects?
No, I do not.

VYPE: What Clubs or Campus groups are you involved with and why?
I’m not involved in any.

VYPE: What has your sport taught you that you use in your daily life?
How to keep a level head and thrive under pressure. It has taught me how to make decisions in the heat of the moment and to trust myself and the people working around me.

VYPE: What is the best advice that anyone has given you?
Don’t overthink things too much. Everything will eventually fall into place where it needs to.

VYPE: Who inspires you and why?
My former coach Marissa Janning-Murphy. She helped coach me in my first AAU season, and her knowledge of the game and life is incredible. She is one of my biggest role models to this day, even if she doesn’t coach me anymore.

VYPE: Here is your chance to give a shoutout or say thank you to anyone you wish.
I would like to say thank you to all the coaches that have made an impact in my life, my trainers who’ve worked with me to make my game better, my family for supporting me, and my teammates for being my best friends.
