Hi, what are you looking for?

Moore/Norman

Q&A with Southmoore’s Raylen Kernell – Presented by Rib Crib

VYPE: What are your goals for this season?
Raylen: My goals this season is to become more confident and to grow with my team.

VYPE: Which athlete do you look up to and why?
Raylen:
I look up to Nevaeh Tot on the OU women’s basketball team because she shows that size doesn’t matter and it won’t stop her.

VYPE: Who is your favorite teacher from any grade and why?
Raylen:
My favorite teacher is Mrs. Parker from 2nd grade because she really encouraged me to go beyond my limits at a young age and to try new things.

VYPE: Who inspires you and why?
Raylen:
Someone who inspires me is my family friend who passed away at a young age, Seth Joslin. Seth never took life for granted. He always had a positive mindset and put others before himself. He inspires me to be selfless and to always find the light in every situation.

VYPE: What teammate has left the biggest impression on you and why?
Raylen:
Kenzi Shipman is a teammate that really makes things easier. She really lifts you up when you get down. We’ve been teammates since I was in the seventh grade. She’s always there when I need help.

VYPE: What does being on a team mean to you?
Raylen:
Being on a team means to trust, grow with each other and be able to make mistakes and learn from them.

VYPE: You can pick any place for a summer vacation, where do you go and who do you take with you?
Raylen: I would pick The Bahamas. I would take my family because usually my basketball tournaments are their “vacations”

VYPE: When and how did you first get into playing your sport?
Raylen:
I started playing basketball at age six at Upward basketball at a local church.

VYPE: Here is your chance to say hello, goodbye or thank you to anyone you wish.
Raylen:
I would like to say thank you to my AAU coaches Michael Carrington and Isaiah Anglin. And to my parents who support me and drive me to all my practices and tournaments.
