Southmoore’s Jacob Hayes – Athlete Spotlight – Presented By Scott Smith-Shelter Insurance

Southmoore senior Jacob Hayes was born for baseball.

“My baseball journey began at the age of three when I started playing T-ball at the YMCA. It really became my sport because I grew up around it and it runs in the family bloodline,” Hayes says. “My grandfather, uncle and dad all played ball growing up. I’ve loved the game since.”

As one of the SaberCats’ leaders on the diamond, Hayes feels a responsibility to “keep the team positive and help build them up.”

“I really feel like as a team, we spread positivity and leave a positive impact on others,” Hayes says.

Twice annually, Hayes and his teammates participate in community service. The senior is also the baseball team leader on SLAC and is active in DECA.

The greatest lesson baseball has taught Hayes: “consistency.”

“When you are consistent, you get better and you can use that skill to get better at many other things in life. I’m thankful for all of the opportunities and friendships I’ve made playing baseball, along with all of the lessons I’ve learned,” Hayes says. “I truly wouldn’t be the person I am today without it.”

Hayes expects to take his senior season in stride; “making it the best season yet and seeing where god’s plan takes me.”

“If baseball doesn’t work out, I’m planning on pursuing a career in HVAC and/or joining the fire department,” Hayes says.

VYPE: Which teammate, past or present, has inspired you on or off the field?

JH: A teammate that really inspired me was my good friend, Danny Satterlee. Danny was a grade above me and he always played his heart out. He has also always looked out for me on and off the field.

VYPE: Who’s your celebrity crush?

JH: Madelyn Cline.
