Finding your passion can take a lifetime, but for Southmoore High School senior Lainey
King, she found her passion playing softball.
“I played softball and basketball growing up, but softball has always been my passion,” said
King.
As a student-athlete at SHS, King said the support the students receive from the school is
what makes Southmoore a great place to be a student-athlete.
“Southmoore is a great place to be a student-athlete because of the support we receive
from our teammates, coaches, families and community. It’s like one big family,” said King.

Softball is her passion, but King is involved in other activities including serving as a student
council senator, National Honor Society and Student Athletic Leadership. The senior also
said her favorite subject is math.
“My favorite school subject is math, and my favorite teacher is Ms. Deemer. I will be
majoring in elementary education in college and plan to teach elementary math,” said King.
Looking at the upcoming season, King said the team is ready to take on a tough schedule.
“When looking at the upcoming season, I am most excited about getting to compete with
the new teams that are in our district and hope to help lead my team to the state
tournament again. Keep an eye out for senior Kayla Stover she is a leader on and off the
field and will strengthen our outfield as well as our batting line up! Also keep an eye out for
sophomore Kandace Burnett she has a great glove in the infield and adds another strong
bat to our lineup,” said King.
King said she wants her class to be remembered for competing and representing
Southmoore in the state tournament.
“I want my class to be remembered as the class who competed and made it to the state
tournament every year of our high school careers. What I love most about this group is that
everyone plays with so much heart every time we take the field! It’s a scrappy group that
will fight until the end. I have enjoyed all the memories we have made as a team and all the
trips to the state tournament,” said King.
