Southmoore’s Miley Simo – Athlete Spotlight – Presented by Scott Smith – Shelter Insurance

Miley Simo is a volleyball player at Southmoore High School. She enjoys continuing to improve her game and she has had the help of some people that she looks up to and enjoys working with to help her volleyball skills.

“My biggest role model is Kaitlynn Robinson,” she said. “She is also a middle blocker that graduated from Westmoore last year and is committed to Howard University. She is an amazing middle blocker and a great team player and my goal is to play like her. Jadyn Suthers is a teammate that I really enjoy working with during practice because she is an amazing setter.”

Along with playing volleyball, Simo is also involved with the Supercats, which is Southmoore’s Special Olympic athletic team.

Simo has put in a lot of time and effort to get to where she is today. She also says that she has some outstanding support in her life too.

“My mom helps me to stay motivated to do my best,” she said. “Being successful takes practice, determination, and hard work and that is what has helped me become the athlete I am today.”

When Simo and her teammates step out on the court to compete, they are ready to face whatever is thrown their way. But she does have one team that she enjoys beating the most.

“Edmond Memorial is a team that I really want to beat, because they were state champions last year,” she said. “It would be really nice if we could win against them.”

In the classroom at Southmoore, Miley has one teacher that has been really influential in her life and helped shape her into the person she is.

“Mrs. Pico has made the biggest impact in my life because she has always believed in me even if I didn’t believe in myself,” Miley said. “She made me have confidence in who I am today.

When Miley is not practicing or playing volleyball, she likes to stay updated with social media. She has one person that she really enjoys keeping up with.”

“My favorite person that I follow on social media is Jurnee Robinson,” Simo said. “She is just an amazing outside hitter. When she gets a hold of the ball she puts it away immediately.”
