Scott Hunter teaches special education and serves as assistant facilitator for athletic director
Chad Mashburn at Westmoore High School.
May will mark the end of Hunter’s third year at Westmoore, but his 26th at Moore Public Schools. Hunter’s high school offensive line coach, Eddie Paul, inspired him to become a teacher.
“[Paul] motivated me, pushed me and believed in me,” Hunter said. “I wanted to have that same effect on kids. As a teacher and coach, we have a profound impact on the future of our students.”
Hunter’s students, he said, “are listening,” which has taught him awareness that his words and actions matter. They have also taught him “to be patient, the ability to adapt to different situations” and flexibility.
“Creating positive relationships with students is so important,” Hunter said. “In the difficult world we live in, our students need positive adult role models and a person that will help them feel safe enough to open up and engage. Teachers are the driving force to make that happen. I hope I am that person to my students.”
In his free time, Hunter enjoys spending time with his family, riding motorcycles, hunting and being outdoors.
