Only a sophomore at Westmoore High School, Sophia Leonetti is already making her mark on the golf course.

“Sohpia was our six bag last year as a freshman,” said her coach. “She has been working hard the past year and is now our four bag for varsity.”

Sophia might be an underclassman, but she is no stranger to golf or competition.

“I got started with golf in the summer of second grade,” Sophia said. “I started off in the First Tee of Metro Oklahoma City with coach Dustin Semsch. I started playing competitively when I was 9 years old.”

For this young athlete she gets a lot of joy from the game of golf as well as the challenges it brings her.

“My favorite part about golf is being outdoors and the challenges it gives you both physically and mentally,” said Sophia.

Loving the sport you play is important to any athlete, but loving the people you play with and for is just as important.

“I love my team and coaches,” said Sophia. “I have known most of my teammates since seventh grade.

Some of them are even my closest friends. My coaches are always there for me and always help when I need it the most. I am so grateful for each and everyone of them.”

Looking back over her golf career so far there are a lot of great memories for Sohpia, but her favorite memory so far was getting chosen to caddy at the Oklahoma Golf and Country Club. This year will be her second year getting chosen for that opportunity.

Sophia has learned a lot over her years of playing golf and she uses what she learns on the course off of it as well.

“Golf has taught me how to handle life, relationships with peers, and different situations,” said Sophia.

“Handling life is just like how you handle a shot on the course. You approach the problem, think of different ways to handle the problem, and finally you apply your knowledge.”

Sohpia has her goals set high for the future with golf. She has hopes of making it to state her junior and senior years as well as hopefully earning a scholarship to continue her golf career at the next level.
