Katia Marquez

Westmoore High School

Westmoore High School senior Katia Marquez has played soccer since the age of six. Now in her final season, Marquez said the best thing about being a student-athlete at WHS is the support from the Westmoore family.

“I think the thing I love most about being a student-athlete here is the support that is given not only from the teachers and coaches but from the classmates as well. Everyone uplifts and supports each other in every endeavor which makes being a student-athlete truly enjoyable,” said Marquez.

Marquez said there are many reasons to be excited about the new season, and one big reason is her teammates.

“The thing I love most about my teammates is how determined and hardworking they are. There isn’t a single person on the team who doesn’t give it their all. Jenna Daggs and Jaycie Daggs have been really impressing me this season. These two sisters are the most determined people I know. They give it all they have and are just overall incredible players,” said Marquez. “I think the Westmoore HS soccer team is looking really good this season. We have amazing players that I think are going to allow us to have a great season.”

Coming into the season, Marquez said she wanted to improve the mental part of her game.

“Having confidence and not letting yourself be brought down by little mistakes is very important in soccer. So, I have worked to not only gain confidence in myself as a player but to learn from the mistakes I make and move on,” said Marquez.

Away from the field Marquez said she enjoys spending time with friends and family, while planning for her life after high school.

“After I graduate, I want to continue to play soccer while I pursue my biology degree and then my D.V.M (Doctor of Veterinary Medicine). I love to spend time with my family and friends in my free time. I am always so busy with school and soccer that when I do have those free moments, I try to spend it with the people who matter most,” said Marquez.
