Westmoore’s Kolton Bennett is the defending 800-meter state champion in Class 6A. The senior is looking to defend his title, while competing in other events this season.
“I’m the 800-meter state champion but I also dip into the 400 and 200. Really just wherever the coach needs me I’m happy to run,” said Bennett.
At the age of 12 Bennett realized not only did he have a talent for running, but he enjoyed it. Now in his final season of prep competition, Bennett said he is enjoying it and taking it all in.
“We have a really solid team and I think we will be able to put together some pretty competitive relay’s especially from the 400 and up. I really enjoy the fact that I have teammates that treat me like a brother, and I know will always be there for me even outside of track,” said Bennett.
Representing Westmoore on the track and in the classroom is a top priority for Bennett.
“Obviously I enjoy running and I couldn’t do it without the grades, so I look at school and the sport as one which keeps me busy on and off the track,” said Bennett. “My favorite subject is anything with history, but my favorite teach is Mrs. Zielny my creative writing teacher because I’ve known her for a long time, and she is someone I can relate and talk to.”
Bennett has big plans for this future which will take him out of state for college.
“I’m committed to run track at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock and I will study construction management,” said Bennett.
When the opportunity presents itself, Bennett said he loves to be in the outdoors.
“I spend most of my time off the track hunting and spending time in the woods where I feel closest to God.”
