When Heritage Hall’s Jasmine Crain started playing tennis, she was still in elementary school. Today Crain is a member of the varsity team and has her sights set on making this her best season yet.
“I started playing tennis when I was around seven with Coach Bob but I did not start tournaments until end of the summer of 2020, when I was 13, and Coach Tim Shanahan helped me get into the tournament environment,” said Crain.
The Heritage Hall girl’s tennis team likes to mix things up and for Crain, it could mean playing where the team needs her the most.
“I am not sure what I am playing this season, our coach likes to mix and match our lineups throughout the season so there is nothing set in stone yet,” said Crain.
Tennis is a sport Crain fell in love with for many reasons. Even as a varsity player, Crain continues to improve her game and bring her best self to the court for every match.
“I enjoy the dynamic of the sport, it doesn’t matter who is winning or losing, anyone can come back and switch the momentum of the match. I also enjoy how there is always an area for improvement, and so anyone can always get better at tennis. The most improved area of my game is my net game, volleys, and overheads,” said Crain.
As a team member, Crain said the team features some great talents and teammates who are fun to be around.
“I enjoy the team dynamics that we have. All our teams have a unique and close relationship with each other and it’s very special. Eloise Nasr is a freshman on our team that is definitely worth watching. She is an evolving player and has lots of potential to give for a part of our team,” said Crain. “I love how all my teammates are always so supporting no matter what and we are always there for each other. I enjoy how close we are to each other; our team is like a second family to me.”
Aside from tennis, Crain is involved in the Pep Club, and she serves as junior class treasurer in STUCO. She also serves on a few teen boards. Crain said she is looking forward to graduation and what happens after high school.
“After I graduate, I would like to continue playing collegiate tennis and major in kinesiology to become a physical therapist,” said Crain.
