Heritage Hall’s Tennyson Portman – Athlete Spotlight – Presented by Charger Basketball

By Scott Metz

Heritage Hall senior Tennyson Portman, also called Lainey Portman by her peers, is a multi-sport athlete, playing both Girl’s Basketball and Track for the Heritage Hall Chargers. In basketball, Tennyson plays both Guard and Small Forward.

When it comes to playing sports, Tennyson exclaimed, “I love the game, competition, having a team, and winning games.”

Tennyson is very excited for this Basketball season. “I am so excited for this year and our new coaches Nixon, P, and Trailer, and people should really keep an eye out for Heritage Hall Women’s Basketball this year.”

In regards as to who her favorite teacher is, Tennyson looks toward a higher power and faith, rather than a traditional school teacher. Tennyson proclaimed, “The teacher that has had the biggest impact on my life is God. In recent years I have really had to come to him and trust him so I have to give all my glory to Him.”

As to the source of her success, Tennyson takes a philosophical approach, and stated, “I feel like successful is such a subjective word. But I would say to become successful in anything you have to have more drive than the person next to you and know that everything is earned.”

In terms of who has influenced Tennyson the most, she cites numerous individuals. “I would say all of my past teammates, coaches, trainers, and opponents have influenced me the most, because I am always learning new things to add to my game.”

When it comes to representing her school and her community, Tennyson stated, “I love representing Heritage Hall- always so honored honestly. We have such a tight community so I know they have my back the same way I would have theirs.”

Every team and school have a rival they enjoy beating in athletics. “Going to Heritage Hall, there is going to be a little bit of rivalry between Casady and us, so it is always nice to beat them.”

As far as athletes, celebrities, and influencers on social media, Tennyson stated, “I do not really have a favorite person on social media, but if there is really anything that is aesthetic or cool, I will give a like.”

Besides Girls Basketball and Track, Tennyson has a plate full of other extracurricular activities, “At school I love being involved with my peers. I am the Student Council President, the Co-President of French Club, a peer leader, on pep assembly crew, in pep club, and Independent Study Program.”
